Obituary for John D Faville

John D Faville died Friday August 30, 2019 at the age of 92. He was born in Menomonee, WI to John and Esther Faville on October 17, 1926. He graduated from Shorewood High School in 1944 and joined the army. Assigned to Hawaii he served as a guard at an Italian prison camp and the driver for his unit’s Chaplin. After serving in the army he graduated from Beloit college and returned to his beloved Northwoods to teach music; math and Band at Laona and Hurley High Schools. He met and married another musician, Jean Vetting. They had 3 children, Jack, Joel and Claire.

John switched to counseling for his master’s degree and began teaching in Corrections at his father’s invitation. He later coordinated a therapeutic community within the Kettle Moraine corrections facility. In 1980, He and his wife, Jean, opened the Blue Heron restaurant in Woodruff. After 30 years of marriage, Jean passed away in 1984. In 1986, John moved to Fort Wayne, IN to manage Life Skills Center, an addictions service provider. He met Sharon Franklin, the Director of Superior Court’s Alcohol Countermeasures Program. They were married in February of 1987.

They returned to the Northwoods in 1993. Sharon remained his wife until his death. John was an avid fan of street cars, steam engines and pipe organs. John enjoyed volunteering for his communities. He played in and directed the Plymouth City Band for many years. He loved musical theater and performed with the Grey Lite Players in Fort Wayne. Church was an important part of his life; music was his ministry. Wherever he went, he either sang in the choir or directed it.

John was always singing or whistling. He played trombone, piano, recorders and spoons. After he retired, he also volunteered as a companion and guardian to adults needing protection. For his beloved grandchildren, they share fond memories of spending summers with him at his cabin on State Line Lake sailing, bike riding, canoeing, swimming, fishing and sitting around the campfire. They also remember his bedtime stories of Jenica the Rabbit Queen and all the songs he made up just for them. And of course, getting ice cream at the Windmill’s ice cream shop on the way home from the cabin.

John was preceded in death by his father John, his mother Esther, his sister Louise, his first wife Jean, and granddaughter Sarah.

He is survived by his wife Sharon, his children Jack (Connie), Joel (Jeanne), Claire; his grandchildren Katie, Corrie (Chris), Emily (Damian), Jessica (John), Jenna, Veronica (Kevin), and Andrea; His great grandchildren Mindy, Ella, Abigail, Jacob, Jacinda, Darren Chloe, Bailey and Clementine.
