Beverly (Mimi) Bemis passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025 at Acorn Hill in Mosinee, at

the age of 97.

Mimi was born to Louis and Agnes (Bursky) Vytlacil on June 10, 1927 at their home in Mosinee. She married Glen Bemis on January 24, 1948. They were married for 29 years. Glenn passed away July 5, 1977.

Glen and Mimi had one daughter Glenda (Brian) Czeck. Mimi was blessed with two grandchildren, Brianna (Cassidy) Rogers, and Mitchell (Steph) Czech. She also had two beautiful great grandsons, Frederick and Henry Rogers.

Mimi worked most of her life, starting with the Mosinee Telephone company. She started in her senior year of high school. She then moved to Milwaukee and worked at Cutler and Hammer.

Glenn wrote and called her often to come home. When she came home, they eloped in Pine City, MN on January 24, 1948.

Mimi then went to work at Marathon Electric for five years. When the company had a strike, she refused to walk through the picket line. She then went to work at Rondeau's Cheese factory in Mosinee for 15 years.

In 1974, Glen and Mimi opened a Coast to Coast Hardware store in Mosinee. When Glen passed away Mimi sold the store. She then worked in the ginseng fields of Mosinee and Marathon City seasonally, and went to Figi's in Marshfield to work the evening shift. She retired at the age of 74. In her retirement, Mimi was also a member of the Red Hat Ladies for 20 years and The Ladies of Auxiliary #8733.

In 2000, Mimi went to her 50th class reunion. There she met Carl Ceresero, one of her classmates. They spent 16 years together. They lived in Florida during the winter months. They traveled to the Czech Republic (where by chance Mimi ran into a cousin), Iceland, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. They shared a passion for travel, and visited 47 states together. Shortly after Carl's death, Mimi moved to Acorn Hill in Mosinee.

Mimi made everyone feel welcomed and loved at Acorn Hill. She loved everyone that worked there, and all of the staff loved her. Her memory was perfect until the end. She knew everyone in Mosinee, or someone in that person's family. Her humor and kindness to others will never be forgotten.

To know Mim was to love her. She was the "wittiest" person you'd ever want to know. She loved to laugh and made everyone around her laugh. Her friends celebrated many of her birthdays together. She always had to have a martini. The last one was at Acorn Hill, June 12th last year, when a group of 7 of us celebrated her 97th birthday.

She was a very giving person and would give anyone the shirt off her back or the last buck in her wallet. She really enjoyed everyone she met, could talk about any subject and loved to reminisce about the good old days. She really didn't like taking pills, she took quite a few (probably made her live to be 97 1/2!) She decided to call them her "birth control pills". The staff at Acorn Hill came into her room, announcing, "time for your birth control pills", she would always chuckle and down the hatch they would go.

She had a secret boyfriend, and thought he was so handsome. It was David Muir. She loved watching the 5:30 news with David, she hardly ever missed it. Probably didn't finish eating her dinner to get back to her room by 5:30 to see David.

One last thing- For those that don't know, Mim was a picky eater! Anything with onions, forget it. Give her a good old plain hamburger and fries and she was happy. Take her to Arby's for a roast beef and curly fries and you made her day. Mim was a wonderful friend to have.

Mimi is survived by her sister, Anne Vytlacil, sister-in-law Sharon Bemis, her daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Plus, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses. Leon (Jean), Robert (Cecilia), and Leonard (Jackie) Vytlacil. Mimi's many friends helped to shape her life. Most dear to her were Charmaine Prewitt, Terri Birnbaum, Barb Ganser, Dora Sirney, Faye Davis, Barb Rosine, Carol Schmidt, Lillian Springer, and a special niece, Tammy Schantz.

Mimi's family and friends would like to thank Acorn Hill staff and Interim Hospice Care (Brittany) for the excellent care they provided. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Marathon County Humane Society or St Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Services will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church in Mosinee on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow to St. Paul Catholic Cemetery.
