Carl John Boettcher, age 88, of Wausau, passed away peacefully on October 6, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Carl was born October 22, 1935, in Shawano, Wisconsin to Alma and John Boettcher. He graduated from Shawano High School and University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point with a bachelor's degree in education. He later received his master's degree in special education from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire.

Carl married Mavis Dumdei in 1959. Through the 59 years of their marriage, Carl was a loving and devoted husband.

He started his career path as a 6th grade teacher at GD Jones High School and Horace Mann Junior High. His proudest accomplishment was serving as director and teacher of the Life Skills Center in the Wausau School District. Here, he developed skills in his special education students, so they could be successful in everyday life. He was both a mentor and friend to many families.

Carl was also an active member of Zion Lutheran Church. His favorite church activity was singing in the choir. He enjoyed the purpose and camaraderie of his Exchange Club. Loved spending time at his Post Lake Cottage in Elcho. He fished, played Scrabble and entertained family and friends.

He was known for his warmth, amazing sense of humor and genuine kindness. Carl truly loved life.

Survivors include his daughter Judy (Paul); his nephew Mark Zimmerman of Austin, Texas; and his cousin, Sue Murphy of Green Bay.

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Mavis.

Services will be held at John J. Buettgen Funeral Home at 948 Grand Avenue, Schofield WI with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2024.
