Caroline E. Schmidt (Armstrong), age 92, of Rothschild, WI, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Caroline was born on May 29, 1932, in Jefferson, Wisconsin, to Esther and Harold Armstrong. She resided in Rothschild since January 2, 1960, a testament to her commitment to her community and family.
After graduating from Jefferson High School, Caroline worked as a bookkeeper at Brenner Hardware. On June 9, 1951, she married the late Clifford Schmidt. Their family moved to Rothschild in 1960, and upon her youngest child starting school, Caroline furthered her education at UWMC and served as interim village clerk for Rothschild. She then embarked on a fulfilling 32-year career as Guidance Secretary at DC Everest Senior High School, retiring in 1995.
Caroline possessed a deep love for gardening, a passion instilled in her by her father during her childhood. She cherished tending her garden throughout her life, a testament to her nurturing spirit. For many years, she was a devoted member of the choir at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, serving as secretary and sharing her musical talents with the congregation.
Caroline is survived by her three sons: Steven (Marie) of Wausau, Randall (Georgia), and Gary (Carol) of Mosinee; grandsons Eric (Cherie) and Michael (Michelle); and great-grandchildren Ember, Sabrina, Ariana, Colton, and Callahan. She is also survived by her sister Bonnie Vinz and Kate (Indiana); sister-in-law Charlene Armstrong (Mayville) and her sons Scot (Michele) of Mayville and Alun (Kendra) of Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ken, brother-in-law Glen Vinz, and daughter-in-law Shelley.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the Aspirus ICU staff and the Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care and kindness shown to Caroline during her final days. Caroline's legacy of love, dedication, and community involvement will be cherished by all who knew her.
