Diane L
Real
Jan 18, 1956 — May 23, 2025
Diane (Lamont) Real, 69, of Casselberry, Florida, passed peacefully into her eternal home on Friday, May 23, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at UW Health in Madison, Wisconsin. Born January 18, 1956, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to Robert and Irene Lamont, Diane lived a life rich in adventure, family, and a deep love for animals and nature.
Diane's early years were spent in Menominee, Michigan, before her family moved to Kaukauna, Wisconsin, where she graduated from high school in 1974. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, later transferring to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's School of Architecture. Following her education, Diane worked for the City of Orlando's planning department as a computer cartographer until her retirement.
Her faith journey began with baptism at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Eau Claire and continued with confirmation at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kaukauna. Diane's compassionate spirit was evident in her unwavering kindness towards animals, frequently rescuing and caring for injured birds and stray dogs, giving them a safe place until she found a permanent one for them. This gentle nature extended to her artistic pursuits; she enjoyed rosemaling and oil painting alongside her mother and shared a love of opera with her father in Sarasota. A cherished family memory includes a trip to Scotland, visiting the Lamont castle ruins in Dunoon, tracing the roots of their clan.
Diane's adventurous spirit led her to a second home in the foothills near Bristol, Virginia, where she took bagpipe lessons. She was an active member of the Orlando Bagpipers, proudly marching in parades and playing "Amazing Grace" at numerous funerals. Summer months often found her at her cabin in Kentucky where a number of her beloved dogs were laid to rest, or visiting family in Wausau, escaping the Florida heat. Trips to her cousin Michelle's ranch in Eau Claire, filled with horses and dogs, were always a highlight. Her love of the outdoors was evident in her enjoyment of camping and hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Diane is survived by her parents, Robert and Irene Lamont of Wausau, Wisconsin; sister Karen Foster; brother Reverend Bruce (Mary Jo Johnson) Lamont of Wausau, Wisconsin; Uncle Don (Raymone) Lamont of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; nieces Dr. Sarah Lamont (and son Brooks) of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Dr. Christine (Jordan) O'Brien of Rockford, Illinois, and Shelby Coates of Wausau, Wisconsin; nephews Matthew (Michelle) Foster of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Johnny (Lauren) Coats of Wausau, Wisconsin; and numerous cousins: Linda (John) Eichacker, Michelle (Richard) Hibbs, David (Veronica) Welder, Laurene, David, Darrell, Peter, Dennis Dokkestul, Alice, David, and Robert Hunter, all of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Albert and Ida Dokkestul, Byron and Mildred Lamont; aunts Irene Welder and Laura Dokkestul; and uncles Gene Dokkestul and Ray Welder, all of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
A private celebration of life for immediate family will be held at John J. Buettgen Funeral Home in Schofield, Wisconsin, at a later date.
