Irene Cherek, 94, of Weston, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2020. She is once again with the love of her life, Frank Cherek, her beloved husband who she was all too soon parted from some 50 years ago.
Irene was born at home in Bevent, Wisconsin on July 13, 1925, to the late Antone Delikowski and the late Frances Klemen Delikowski. She was predeceased by her sisters, Lucy Omernick and Angeline Laska , and brothers, Arthur, Anthony and Daniel. Irene is survived by her brother Ernie and Ray (Diane) and sister-in-law, Phyllis Delikowski. Irene leaves her three children, daughter Delphine Marceille and her husband, Patrick of Schofield, WI, her son, David (Pinky) Cherek of Weston, WI, and her son, Dennis Cherek and wife, Rose of Kronenwetter, Wisconsin, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
After marrying Frank Cherek on September 24, 1942, the young couple lived in Wausau, Wisconsin. Irene was a homemaker and at the age of 39, suffered her husband Frank's untimely passing and learned to drive, manage finances, family and become independent. She obtained a job as a cook at the D.C. Everest school cafeteria and eventually moved to the country where she worked at Marceille's Meats for many years. She also worked at a styrofoam factory and blinds factory until she retired at the age of 85. Irene was a lifelong devout member of the Catholic Church. She was quiet, strong, hardworking, independent and enjoyed gardening, baking, embroidery, coloring, reading, setting puzzles, and surrounded herself with family.
Survivors include, grandchildren Wendy (Randy) Rice, Westlake, Texas, Dean (Patty) Marceille, Wausau, Tim (Kelly) Marceille, Wausau, Jennifer (Jeff) Mucksavage, Oak Lawn, Illinois, Heather (Duane) Lopriore, North Granby, Connecticut, Paula (Eric) Bridgewater, Wausau, and Brenda (Clayton) Schwede, Rib Mountain. Irene was predeceased by grandchildren Frank Cherek, Curt Marceille, and Tammy Gass.
A visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 29, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service and mass at 11 a.m., at the St. Therese Church, in Rothschild, Wisconsin.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Cady Home, the Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, and the Buettgen Funeral Home, whom provided Irene with the most loving and gentle care at the end of her life's journey.
