Joan Alice (Marquardt) Melnick, age 92, passed away peacefully at DeSoto Palms under the care of Hospice in Sarasota, FL on June 5, 2024. She was born in Wausau on November 7, 1931, to Martin and Florence (Denk) Marquardt.

Joan was a volunteer at Doctors Hospital in Sarasota for many years, and was a member of the Red Hats Society. She had deep faith in the word of the Lord, even took a trip to the Holy Lands and was baptized in the Jordan River.

Joan is survived by her sons Brad (Susan) Schewe and Bruce (Diane) Schewe, her grandchildren Karen (Sie Sauers) Behrns, Craig Schewe, Krista (Brandon) Kurth and Kelsey (Jake) Musel. She is further survived by her great grandchildren Lilah, Coen, Blake, and Brooks, stepbrother Jim (Judy) Schewe, stepsister Marlene (Gary) Hansel, many nieces and nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents Martin and Florence, husband Joe, and son Blair Schewe, her brother Donald Marquardt, stepsister Jan Gilray, and stepmother Clara Marquardt.

A celebration of Joan's life will be held at John J. Buettgen Funeral Home on Monday, July 22, 2024, starting at 10 a.m. with a prayer service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow to Pine Grove Cemetery with a graveside prayers.
