In Loving Memory of John "JV" Vercimak

It is with profoundly heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of John Junior Vercimak, also known to many of his friends as "JV," on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 9:05 AM in the comfort of his home. In his final moments, as he took his last breath, he held the hands of his dearest wife, Kathy, and his son, William. His departure from this life, due to natural causes linked to long-standing heart and health challenges, leaves a void that will be deeply felt by everyone who knew him.

A Life Rooted in Family, Duty, and Hard Work

Born on April 11, 1934, in Plover, WI, to parents John Vercimak Senior and Melva Rae Cater, John was raised in a home filled with love, strong family values, integrity, and a dedication to hard work. He dedicated 38 years as an engineering draftsman at Drott Manufacturing and JI Case (1953–1991) and an additional 15 years, part-time, at Best Buy (1999–2015) as a Merch/Sales Support Associate. He also served honorably in the Amy National Guard for 9 years (1952–1961) as a Sergeant First Class in an infantry/tank division, earning distinctions for his marksmanship and leadership—a true reflection of his unwavering sense of duty and excellence.

A Beautiful Love Story

At Drott, fate had a quiet plan waiting to unfold. Kathy worked alongside him, filing blueprints (including some of his own work), and before long, well-meaning coworkers in the bowling league arranged chances for the two to cross paths. While at the bar, the guys deliberately left an empty seat beside Kathy—a calculated move intended to have him sit next to her. Yet, John remained blissfully unaware of their orchestrated plan. Though he didn't ask her then if she'd like to share a cup of coffee, it soon became his cherished daily ritual to make one for her every morning. This simple act revealed the depth of his thoughtfulness and genuine care, setting the stage for the beautiful 56-year love story they would share.

Adventures with Family and Friends

John's adventurous spirit shone through in all he did. Together with family and friends, they traveled, camped, hunted, fished, snowmobiled, golfed, and bowled—relishing every adventure along the way. He loved going out to eat (with a particular fondness for "The Mint") and amusingly kept a secret stash of sweets reminiscent of the treasured custard pie Kathy made just for him.

He eagerly anticipated the annual "Versee's" cribbage tournaments and savored countless summers up North on Burrows Lake—a place where Lincoln fondly recalls the time John imparted a treasured lesson in marksmanship. That cherished lesson was just one among many memories that wove together his legacy of adventure, mentorship, and heartfelt connection. Whether bursting into dance whenever music filled the air or lighting up a room with his infectious laughter, John knew how to celebrate life. For Kim, his dancing held a profound significance—especially on her wedding day, when every joyful step became a poignant reminder of the love and light he brought into her life.

The Simple Pleasures at Home

At home, John embraced the beauty of everyday moments. Ever the meticulous soul, he marked everything with his initials and dates to call it his own. He delighted in the tranquility of his surroundings—wandering to the raspberry bush for a personal treat and keeping the bird feeders stocked for Kathy's persistent squirrels. London fondly recalls baking pumpkin bread with Grandma, where John, reveling in the sweet aroma, would slather his slice with butter and be heard endlessly scraping his plate to savor every delectable morsel. She also treasures those evenings gathered around the backyard fire pit, sharing burnt marshmallows under the deepening twilight skies.

In quieter times, whether on fishing trips savoring a well-earned cigar or on the golf course forging lasting memories with his son Chad and grandsons Seth and Drew, John's genuine joy in life was evident. Spirited road trips with lifelong friends like Gary and Sherrie Goetsch further enriched his journey.

A Community Pillar and a Life Well Lived

A proud patriot, John was an active member of Corner Stone Church in Mosinee and the American Legion. His generous spirit extended beyond his immediate circle; he supported causes dear to him, including St. Jude and Wounded Warriors. Whether winning golf awards during his working years, attending the "Back to the 50s" car show, or enjoying classic Western films and an eclectic mix of music—from the soulful notes of gospel and country to the energizing tunes of classic rock (with a nod to his rock 'n' roll gal, Pat Benatar)—John infused warmth and energy into every gathering.

Known as the life of every event, his infectious laughter, unwavering support at his grandsons' basketball and football games, and spirited cheers for his favorite teams—the Dukes and the Packers—reminded everyone to savor every moment. Whether it was his morning coffee and donut ritual or the way he carved a turkey at family gatherings, each gesture spoke of a man who embraced life wholeheartedly and readily shared his joy.

Family and Farewells

John is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Kathy; his sons William (and his fiancée, Rene Guyton of Moraine, OH), Chad (with his wife Karin of Weston, WI), Kim Winkelman (with her husband Shanon of Tyler, TX), Robin (with his wife Lou Ann of Oshkosh, WI), Karen (with her husband Joe Bittner of Mosinee, WI), and Tammi (with her husband Shannon Glatczak of Mosinee, WI); 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also remembered by those who preceded him—his son James Howard Vercimak, daughters Christine Lynn Vercimak and Lori Noel Grohman, his sister Lorraine Litzer, and his cherished godchild, Wendy Christine Goetsch. Our deep gratitude is extended to hospice nurse Mary and the compassionate CNAs whose gentle care brought comfort during his final days.

All are welcome to join us on June 20th, 2025, at Corner Stone Church (601 5th St., Mosinee, WI) as we come together to celebrate John's remarkable life. On that day, visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, followed by a service from 3:00 to 3:45 PM, and a reception from 3:45 to 5:00 PM.

John and Kathy found profound comfort in one another's company. Even today, John's urn remains at home with Kathy—a quiet, enduring symbol of the solace and love they shared. This cherished arrangement will persist until the day Kathy closes her eyes for the last time; then, reunited in heaven under God's loving embrace, their ashes will be laid to rest together at Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau, WI.

John said he was going to keep going—and at 91 years, he truly did. He filled our lives with lasting memories, hearty laughter, and boundless love for his family. His legacy—a blend of quiet determination, an exuberant spirit, and countless acts of care—will continue to resonate in every life he touched. We lift our glass once more to honor JV—a friend, a hero, our Dad, and my husband.
