Obituary

Mary Lucille Lewis, age 75 of Pearson, WI passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 18, 2015 on her youngest daughter Melody's birthday. She was born in the Town of Rolling on August 5, 1940 the daughter of Conrad and Lorraine (Plautz) Fleischman. On May 18, 1958 she eloped with the love of her life, Roy Ward Lewis. They soon moved to Sunny Vale, California and lived there until 1967. Back in Antigo, WI they built a home together on Hwy 45 then in 1973 they moved to a dairy farm south of Antigo until 1982 when they built their beloved final home on Rollingstone Lake in Pearson, WI. On April 23, 2015 she watched the man she built her life with slowly pass from this world and attempted to make her way without him by her side. Mary Lu was a kind, loving, and compassionate person. Her creativity and intelligence led her to pursue many careers and hobbies. She was a telephone operator, bank teller, school teacher, Crestwood Elementary secretary, Lewis Brothers Trucking bookkeeper, rural route mail carrier, foster parent, 4-H leader, garden club member, operated a dairy farm as well as the Country Flower Shoppe. Mary Lu spent 24 years in service to the Town of Ainsworth as Supervisor and Chairperson. She loved serving her community on the Langlade County Board of Adjustment and numerous committees for the town, county and state. She taught everyone she came in contact with the importance of voting and getting involved to bring about change. In addition to her political life, she successfully helped her husband operate Lewis Sand & Gravel. Her time on Rollingstone Lake was also spent teaching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren the importance of observing and protecting the environment. Whether taking them on long walks through the woods to identify trees, flowers and wildlife or showing them how to garden, pan gold or dig for artifacts, time spent with her was always fun and educational. She kept detailed journals and photographs of her daily observances at the lake. She loved to fish, read, write, sew, paint, draw, travel, play bingo, watch Nascar, make Christmas wreaths and help with her daughter-in-laws daycare. She made gifts for birthdays, holidays and special occasions. The quilts, paintings, dolls, pajamas, Halloween costumes, wedding dresses and flowers she so lovingly made for her children, grand children and great grand children will forever be treasured. Many of these very special gifts will be passed on from generation to generation. Mary Lu was not only mother to her own children but to many nieces, nephews, their friends, foster children and any strays that came along. She greeted you with a smile and always made you feel welcome and if you missed her call her message would always be ...it's just the old lady at the lake...
