Mary Juliana (Basel) Sann of Wausau passed away at home March 20, 2025, she was 75 years old. She was born June 7, 1949 in Merrill Wisconsin to the late Raymond and Wilhelmina (Renn) Basel, she was the eldest of 7. She graduated from Tomahawk High School, class of 1967 and went on to graduate from North Central Technical College with a degree in business and marketing.

For over 30 years Mary was a sales consultant for Stanley Home Products which allowed her to be employed while she moved around the upper Midwest for her former husband's career. She excelled in her career being recognized as a top sales consultant many times. She was rewarded with a new car and several company sponsored trips to various cities around the country (Nashville, New Orleans, Boston and San Antonio to name a few). She met and made many friends during these years of her life; many became lifelong friends and acquaintances. It is no surprise that she was a social person and the idea of serving others partnered well to meet new people as she moved to new towns. She was a member of several Jaycees chapters and was a Cub Scout Den Leader for her sons and Girl Scout Troop leader for her daughter.

Later in life she held various positions in the food service and retail industries until health issues prevented her from being able to work. Eventually these health issues impacted her mobility and she relied upon an electric wheel chair to get around. During these years she advocated for services that improved the lives of those relying upon public transportation by becoming a community member of a State task force to improve public transportation for those living in the greater Wausau area. She also was a community member of a county task force focused on meeting nutritional needs of seniors and vulnerable populations. Her participation gave her an immense sense of pride and fulfillment.

Mary was blessed with three children. Todd (Kiva) Sann of Berlin Wisconsin, Matthew (Heather) Sann of Mosinee and Jill (Michael) Snow of Weston. Her children blessed her with 13 grandchildren: Ryly (Sara) Sann of De Pere, Kassidy (Jesse) Podeweltz of Tripoli, Felecity (Taylor) Rogers of Beebe Arkansas, Kersyn (Christopher) White of Wausau, Tairyn (Cristian) Sann of Wausau, Sabastian Sann of Wausau, Leif, Thomas and Samantha Sann of Mosinee and Hannah, Abbigayle, Makinlee and Corban Snow of Weston. She has been further blessed with 7 great grandchildren: Raelynn, Evelyn, Amelia, Kendrix, Elias, Ella and Olyn.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, step father Gerald Roberts, Brother George Basel, sister Delores Miller, brother-in-law Tom Sheldon and brother-in-law John Majerus. She is further survived by her sisters Jane (Russ) Penkalski of Stoddard, Ella Sheldon of Rhinelander, Joyce (Jack) Verbist of Tomahawk, Theresa Majerus of Mequon, and brother-in-law Phillip Miller of Schofield, in addition many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to recognize the residents and staff at Sturgeon Bluff Apartments in Wausau, where Mary has lived for several years. Your friendship and companionship meant a great deal to her and she truly looked forward to evenings of bingo, cards, board games and potlucks.

A celebration of life will be held Monday March 31, 2025 with a visitation starting at 1pm until 3pm with a service to follow led by Rev. Jess Wakefield. Visitation and service will be held at John J. Buettgen Funeral Home 948 Grand Avenue, Schofield, WI 54476
