Richard "Dick" Carl Steele, 97, of Wausau, Wisconsin, (formerly of Lansing, Michigan; Sarasota, Florida; and Vicksburg, Michigan) passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26, 2019, in Wausau, at Applegate Terrace under the care of hospice. He was born on October 10, 1921, in Lansing, Michigan, the son of the late Verne and Ruth (Baumbauer) Steele. Dick served as a 1st LT. in the Army in WWII as a B-17 pilot. He flew missions out of Polebrook, Eng. After completing his required number of missions, he returned to the USA and served as a flight instructor, and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married the love of his life, Mary Anna (Swift) on September 25, 1946, in Lansing. They enjoyed 65 wonderful years together before she preceded him in death in 2011. Dick worked 42 years in Lansing at Oldsmobile as a vehicle styling and design engineer and at their proving grounds in Detroit. He was a member of the Lansing Masonic Lodge.     Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry Steele; three brothers, Verne Steele, Robert Steele, and John Steele. He is survived by his older sister, Jeanette Cooley (101) of Roanoke, Virginia; son, James Steele of Vicksburg, Mich.; daughter, Laurie (Scott) Wilson of Vicksburg, Mich.; son, Edward (Ann) Steele of Wausau; four grandchildren, Amy Steele, Michael (Lisa) Steele, Aaron (Angela) Wilson, and Adam Wilson; and five great-grandchildren, Julia Steele, Alana Steele, Trent Steele, Alison Wilson and Andrew Wilson; and many nieces and nephews. Dick enjoyed watching football, baseball, and golf on TV, and socializing and sharing stories with people and joking with them. He had a love for designing and building things that included constructing three homes and a cottage.   Mid-Wisconsin Cremation Society is assisting the family.
