Rita Kasten, 81, passed away at home on January 12, 2019. Rita a long time resident of Weston lived on the family farm. She was a retired Food Service Manager from Wausau Hospitals. During the 1960's she worked for Wisconsin Public Service and was seen on tv 7 as WPS's home economist. In the 1970's she co-owned and operated Kasten's Kustom Kitchens and then owned and operated The Ceramic Corner both located in Wausau. She served on the Weston Town Board. She is best known for her service as a D.C. Everest School Board Member of 40 years. Her first term began in 1976. She was a major presence at all D.C. Everest events during the past 50 years. She is preceded in death by her father Harry August; mother Sylvia, Brother Harry Andrew and nice Virginia "De De". Her surviving relatives include her nephew Harry John and his wife Cynthia Leigh of Naples, Florida, their children Kimberlee Nicole Raczek, Kristofer Andrew Kasten, Nikolaus James Kasten and her grand nieces Maddisyn Nicole and Maddalyn Elizabeth Raczek. Visitation and Service are being held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Buettgan Funeral Home 948 Grand Ave in Schofield. Visitation 10:00 am. Memorial Services 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, D.C. Everest School District has established the Rita Kasten Memorial Scholarship Fund. Donations may be sent to D.C.
