Obituary

Robert H. Coleman, age 99, of Weston, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025, with his loving family at his side.

He was born on November 3, 1925, to the late Jeremiah and Anna (Conrad) Coleman. A proud WWII veteran, Robert's dedication to service was matched by his lifelong commitment to education and community.

Robert's career as an English teacher spanned nearly five decades, from 1951 to 1999, shaping the minds of countless students. His passion for teaching was complemented by his roles as a wrestling and football coach, where he instilled discipline, hard work, and teamwork. An active member of both the National Education Association (NEA) and the Wisconsin Education Association Counsel (WEAC), Robert was a tireless advocate for teachers and education.

In addition to his dedication to education, Robert was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion, honoring his service to his country throughout his life. He will be remembered for his quick wit, vast collection of stories, and his unique "Mr. Colemanisms" that brought humor and insight to all who crossed his path.

Outside of his professional life, Robert had many passions. He loved reading, crossword puzzles, golfing, bowling, and gardening, especially cultivating flowers and vegetables. His home was always filled with vibrant blooms and a well-tended garden, reflecting his nurturing spirit.

Robert's greatest love was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 77 years, LaVerne (Chappelle) Coleman, whom he married on June 12, 1948. He leaves behind six children: Pat (Terry) Knouse, Kathy Drake, Mary Claire (Gary) Kendall, Bill (Jane) Coleman, Tim (Theresa) Coleman, and Tom (April) Coleman. Robert was also blessed with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.

He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Gary Drake; four sisters; and eight brothers.
