Obituary

Sallie Jane Sorg Sallie was born June 6, 1922. The daughter of Louis and Lydia Sorg was raised in Oshkosh Wisconsin. After college she lived all over the US (except Wisconsin) until she returned at age 80. Despite years of invitations to "return home" she remained true to her "big city" environment. Apparently living just blocks from the Pentagon on 9/11 finally got her to reconsider. Dan and Mary Daniels and Marc and Bonnie Daniels in Wausau were the only family Sallie had at the time so her options were limited. Imagine the culture shock of moving to Wausau after living in Chicago, Detroit, Miami, Austin, Washington D.C., etc. Sallie was an auditor for HUD and the job kept her on the move. At one time she said she had owned homes in 12 locations and rented in another 13. That explains her Christmas card list that included friends from all over the country and around the world! A very elegant lady, Sallie surrounded herself with beautiful things. Apparently big cities have a lot of places to shop because when she moved here, besides the furniture, we unpacked over 80 boxes of "things" this single lady had accumulated. And talk about a wardrobe, she could have opened a dress shop in her closet… as long as you were looking for purple or black! However, lest you think she didn't seem to be a fit for Central Wisconsin…she loved to eat "wildcat" and have a touch of vodka or brandy. Her specialty however was a Blue-Tail Fly…look it up! Oh, by the way, she might have been short in stature but if you spelled her name with a "y" instead of "ie", you did not want to be on her list! Sallie did not just sit around in retirement either. She traveled the world and was an avid competitive ballroom dancer. Also a pretty darn good musician she played violin in the symphony and was very proud of her beautiful piano. Sallie was a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs for over 60 years. Other passions of hers were the Smithsonian Institute and the Historic Preservation Society. Bored? We think not! Sallie spent her last years, still surrounded by her favorite things, at Sylvan Crossings in Wausau. She was happy there and we thank their wonderful staff for the care she received. She was truly part of their family as well. Sallie left us on Thursday, August 28th, 2014. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wausau where a private prayer service will be held.
