Steven P. Gorell, Age 64, passed away peacefully at his residence, surrounded by his sons, after a hard-fought battle with cancer on Thursday, December 24th. A funeral service will be held at the Highland Church in Plover on January 9th at 11:00 AM. Friends and relatives are encouraged to attend for fellowship prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Steve was born in January, 1956, to his parents Joseph Gorell and Marie (Perkovich) Gorell. Steve hailed from Alma, Wisconsin. However, he lived in the Stevens Point Area for a majority of his life. He was an educator and taught 4th grade elementary in Auburndale, Wisconsin, for over 30 years. During his career as a school teacher, Steve had a mission statement for all of his students; "If you're paying attention, learning never stops." Steve was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. His major focus and drive in this life was grounded in his Christian faith and his love for his savior, Jesus Christ. Steve was an expert trapper, fisherman, and outdoorsman. He shared those talents and the bounty of his harvests with many people through the years. Steve is survived by his sons, Matthew, Nate, and Isaac Gorell, his daughter Tiffany (Gorell) Griesbach, his brothers Joseph Gorell, David Gorell (Colleen Gorell), his sisters Karla Hoksch (Orlyn Hoksch), Wanda Gorell, Sally Bjork (David Bjork), Lori Hagen (Robert Thorson), and his grandchildren Marie, Gerard, Reagan, Elijah, Jael, Phinnaeus, Lydia, and Azahriah. Steve cannot be replaced. His family would like to express their gratitude for the kindness and compassion shown by his friends and the Stevens Point Community. Should family or friends desire, memorial donations can be made to a college fund established for Steve's grandchildren. Romans 8:32, "If God is for us, who is against us? He did not even spare His own son, but offered him up for us all; how will He not also with Him grant us everything." We love you dad.
