HOW THIS WORKS

Most families have never done this before. And in the middle of grief, figuring out what comes next can feel impossible. This page walks you through what to expect — from the first hours after a death to the day of the service. Read through at your own pace, or call us anytime and we'll walk you through it together.

Within Hours

If your loved one passes away at home or somewhere other than a medical facility, your first call should be to emergency personnel. If they were under a doctor's care, call the physician too — they can help with the death certificate.

If the death occurs in a hospital, hospice, or care facility, the staff there will handle the initial notifications and can contact us directly once you've chosen us to help.

You can call us as soon as you're ready to call us.

Within the First Few Days

In the first few days, you'll want to notify close friends and family. If that feels like too much right now, it's okay to ask someone else to make those calls.

This is also when you'll meet with a funeral director to start making arrangements. If your loved one preplanned their service, we'll already have a roadmap. If not, here are the main decisions you'll work through together:

  • Burial or cremation

  • Type of casket or urn

  • Final resting place

  • Religious or cultural elements

  • Type of service — visitation, funeral, graveside, or a combination

You don't need answers to any of these before we meet. We'll walk through them with you.
